FEASTS OF THE WEEK

Monday 14: The Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The discovery of the True Cross is dated to 14 September 320. On 13 September 335, the churches on Calvary were dedicated and the cross that St Helena discovered was venerated there the next day. The annual commemoration of that event has been celebrated since, in praise of the redemption won for us by Christ.

Tuesday 15: Our Lady of Sorrows.Mary standing by the Cross ‘suffered intently with her only begotten Son and united herself as his Mother to his sacrifice, consenting with love to the offering of the victim who was born of her’, whom she also offered to the eternal Father.

Wednesday 16: Saints Cornelius and Cyprian.Cornelius became pope in 251 and died in exile in 253. Martyr. Patron for cattle and domestic animals. Cyprian lived 210 – 258. Bishop of Carthage, teacher and preacher. Martyred.

HOLY ROSARY CHURCH - PRIVATE PRAYER TIMES

Holy Rosary Church will open Monday to Thursday from 11.00 am to 6.00 pm and on Friday and Saturdays from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm (this is to allow the sanitising of the church in preparation for evening Masses). The Church will be open for private prayer on Sundays from 1.00 pm until 6.00 pm. Parishioners are asked to please sanitise their hands as they enter and leave the church and to sanitise the candle lighter if used. Upon entering the church for Private Prayer please lift one of the yellow coloured cards and leave it on the seat where you have been seated.

SEASON OF CREATION

Pope Francis has designated September 1- October 4 as Season of Creation, During this time the Prayer of St Francis of Assisi will be recited each day at Mass and we invite families to do the same at home in the evening at meal time or before bedtime. We also invite parishioners to take to the outdoors and to capture on a phone or camera an image that celebrates the Season of Creation. Please send your image to ballinascreenparish@gmail.com and we will create our own virtual response to this call to prayer and praise of God's beautiful creation of which we are a part and to which we belong.

PRAYER OF ST FRANCIS

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master,

grant that I may not so much seekto be consoled

as to console,

to be understood as to understand,

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.

PRAYERS FOR OUR PROTECTION

The Irish Catholic Bishops have asked for prayers for those affected by the Coronavirus. Placing all our trust in the Lord, and asking Our Lady to intercede for us, the bishops invite everyone to pray these prayers:

EXTRACT FROM SAINT PATRICK’S BREASTPLATE

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you,

O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer. Amen
