PARISH COLLECTIONS

The priests of the parish are very grateful to the warm response given to the letter parishioners received last week detailing how the parish can be supported during the Covid 19 Pandemic, when regular weekday and Sunday Masses are suspended. Unfortunately, as stated on Parish Facebook, some families received letters, not in the name of head of household but one of the children. We are sorry for this administrative error and grateful for your understanding. During the past week many Sunday envelopes have been returned via the Parish Office and Parochial Houses. Others have taken the opportunity to establish Standing Orders with their bank or commence online payments, and when the Donate button on the parish webpage is up and running, that too will provide an opportunity for others to contribute.

Thank you very much for your generous support.

  • The start of the Parish Draw, which usually runs from the last Monday of May, will be delayed this year. Details on this will follow in the weeks ahead.

  • Many thanks also for the generous donations received for St Vincent de Paul and for Trócaire.

WEDDING NOTICE

FAN THE FLAME MASS 2020

Thursday 4 June was to be the date for the annual Fan the Flame Mass, where we come together to celebrate all of the young people in our diocese who have received the sacrament of Confirmation and who are preparing to move to the next stage of their education.

Unfortunately, that will not be possible this year. We do hope that these young people will experience the full Fan the Flame in the future as it is such a joy-filled day for all of us.

To mark the end of their primary education, Bishop McKeown will celebrate the 10.00 am Mass in Saint Eugene’s Cathedral for them on that day via the webcam: www.steugenescathedral.com/webcam.html

PARISH BAPTISMS

In accordance with the Government statement and guidelines issued by Bishop McKeown there will be no baptisms until further notice. Baptisms will resume as soon as possible, but we ask parents not to be anxious.

It is customary nowadays for children to be baptised many weeks and months after they are born.

Parents can bless their children with the Sign of the Cross morning and evening and recite the Guardian Angel Prayer for them:

Angel of God My guardian dear To whom God’s love Commits me here Ever this day Be at my side To light and guard To rule and guide.

Amen.

A BUTTERFLY IN THE PANDEMIC

Today, a butterfly, the first of the year, caught my eye emerging into spring, and brought me hope.

For you too, little one,

have been cocooned like us. Your playmates gone, wrapped around with silence as you waited.

Could you have known how beautiful you’d be when you arose? For you have grown in trusting patience to such a transformation.

So, may our fears and broken dreams, our flowing tears for this world’s sorrow, transform our hearts to deeper love to live tomorrow.

By Lyn McCrave 26 March 2020

PRAYERS FOR OUR PROTECTION

The Irish Catholic Bishops have asked for prayers for those affected by the Coronavirus. Placing all our trust in the Lord, and asking Our Lady to intercede for us, the bishops invite everyone to pray these prayers:

EXTRACT FROM SAINT PATRICK’S BREASTPLATE

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you,

O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer. Amen.
