PARISH SAFEGUARDING
During the week the LSRs ( Local Safeguarding Representatives ) of Ballinascreen and Desertmartin Parishes met with Paula Cunningham and Noel O’Donnell of the Derry Diocesan Safeguarding Office. Fr Madden, who attended the meeting, is delighted to report that Paula and Noel found no issues whatsoever in the implementation and maintenance of diocesan safeguarding policies in the parishes. On behalf of both parishes, he would like to thank Margaret Heron and Michael Hegarty LSRs Ballinascreen and Patsy McElwee and Adrian McGuigan LSRs Desertmartin for all the work they have done. It is due to their diligence and commitment that safeguarding in our parishes are of such high standards. During the meeting new best practice arrangements for altar servers were highlighted and as of this weekend will be introduced in both parishes and in all churches.
Altar Servers must sign in, giving the time of their arrival and sign out, giving time of their departure. During Holy Communion all sacristans are asked to return to the sacristy, so that they are present when the priest and the altar server/s return at the end of Mass. We ask for the cooperation of parents and guardians and that servers arrive in good time to be able to comply with these new guidelines.
ABORTION LEGISLATION
As of October 21, if a new Assembly Executive is not formed, Westminster legislation will allow for the imposition of abortion in Northern Ireland, against the wishes of most of the people. Please let your concerns be known, even at this late stage, and pray for the unborn and their mothers, who will be the victims of this outrage against them and God, the author of life.
