Monday 29: St Martha, sister of Lazarus and Mary.

Wednesday 31: St Ignatius of Loyola. Lived 1491 – 1556. Founded the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits.

Thursday 1: St Alphonsus Liguori, Lived 1696- 1787. Founded the Redemptorist Congregation.

HOLY ROSARY CHURCH

Holy Rosary Church will close after 12 noon Mass on Sunday 4 August 2019. Work to replace the roof and to update the church interior, providing new sanctuary furniture and other necessary modifications will begin immediately. The church will remain closed until the work is completed.

From Monday 5 August morning Mass at 10.00 am will be celebrated in St Eugene's Church Moneyneena as well as the 6.00 pm Saturday Vigil Mass. There will be no 12 noon Mass in the parish on a Sunday during this short time.

In this Fortieth Anniversary Year of the opening of Holy Rosary Church, we look forward to the reopening of the church, where so much of the prayer life of the Parish of Ballinascreen is centred.

THE SACRED HEART MESSENGER

The Sacred Heart Messenger, for August is available to purchase in the Church porches.

From September onwards, it will not be available to buy in our churches so you may wish to become a personal subscriber to the magazine and have it delivered directly to your home each month.

If you decide to subscribe to it we will assist you in your application. The magazine is currently offering a free book for new subscribers. It is called Sharing The Wisdom Of Time by Pope Francis and Friends. It would usually cost €24.95.

PARISH ANNIVERSARY MASS

The Friday 7.30 pm Mass in St Columba’s Straw is offered as an anniversary Mass for deceased parishioners. If you wish to have your loved one prayed for at this Mass you MUST give their name to the Parish Office by Thursday of the relevant week.

BALLINASCREEN PARISH DRAW

Draw will take place on Monday July 29. Results will be printed in next week’s Bulletin.

MASS AT THE MASS ROCK

Mass will be celebrated at the Mass Rock in Glenshane Forest on Sunday 28 July at 3.00 pm. Those attending are asked to start walking at 2.00 pm. Transport to Mass Rock will also be available.

YOUTH 2000 SUMMER FESTIVAL

Youth 2000 Summer Festival from 15 - 18 August, at Clongowes Wood College, Co. Kildare. This is both Youth 2000’s largest event and the largest Catholic youth event in Ireland with over 1,000 attending. Free buses from various locations. KNOCK NOVENA 2019

To mark the 140th anniversary of the Apparition at Knock, the theme of this year’s Novena from Wednesday 14 August – Thursday 22 August is ‘Continuing Our Journey’. Speakers at this Nationa Novena will be:

Thursday 15: Most Rev.Rino Fisichella, Archbishop of Voghenza.

Theme: Mary in the life of the Church.

140th Anniversary DAY

Special day of Celebration on Wednesday 21 August Most Rev. Michael Neary, Archbishop of Tuam will be the main celebrant at 3.00 pm and 8.00 pm Ceremonies.

Theme: The message of the Knock Apparition then and now.

  • 12 noon ~ Seminar on 19th Century Mayo – Place, people and the Knock Apparition by Nollaig O Muraile and Tom Neary.

  • Unveiling of the new Knock Village Model at the 12 noon seminar.

  • Blessing of New Processional Statue of Our Lady of Knock carved in Italy by Stuflesser Ortesei at 3.00 pm Mass.

  • Meeting Heaven at Harvest Time – Witness Walk – celebration and commemoration of the Apparition witnesses at 7.00 pm.

HELP FOR MACMILLAN CANCER CARE

Antrim Macmillan Cancer Care are running low on syringe driver bags. If you can spare an hour to help this great cause please come to An Rath Dubh on Tuesday 30 July between 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm. Please bring your sewing machine, cutting board, cutters and any spare fabric you may have. If unable to attend, but able to donate fabric, thread or velcro these may be left in Devlin’s Shop and all contributions will be greatly appreciated. Good luck and best wishes to all the local members who are taking part in the Ulster Fleadh this weekend. Remember it is not all about the competitions. It is about making new friends and enjoying the experience.
