FEASTS OF THE WEEK

Wednesday 6: Ash Wednesday.

Ashes will be distributed at all Masses on on Ash Wednesday which are as follows:

Holy Rosary ~ 7.00 am and 7.30 pm,

St Eugene’s Moneyneena ~ 10.00 am,

St Patrick’s Sixtowns ~ 10.00 am.

Please note the extra Mass on Ash Wednesday at 7.30 pm in Holy Rosary Church as St Columba’s Church Straw is closed until Sunday March 10. This feast marks the beginning of Lent and is a day of Fast and Abstinence.

Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are the three strands of Lenten observance.

MASSES DURING LENT

During Lent there will be three extra Masses per week at 7.00 am to accommodate those who are working and cannot attend Mass at any other time. Please check the times and places for all Masses during Lent at the side-bar of the Parish Bulletin.

From Tuesday March 12, there will be Mass in St Colm’s High School at 8.40 am Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and all are welcome to join the school community for this Mass.

During Lent we invite as many parishioners as possible to attend daily Mass. We ask that those who have transport offer a lift to neighbours and friends so that, with the sick and the housebound who follow daily Mass on the webcam, we can all be united in our prayers and offerings. God’s people gathered together in praise of Him who gave his life for us all.

Thursday 7: St Perpetua and St Felicity, martyred in Carthage in 203.

Friday 8: St John of God. He devoted his life to the care of the poor and sick

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Adoration in Holy Rosary Church on Monday 4 March, starts after 10.00 am Mass and ends at 7.25 pm. Mass 7.30 pm.

PADRE PIO MASS

Monthly Mass in honour of St Pio of Pietrelcina will be celebrated on Monday March 4 at 7.30 pm in Holy Rosary Church. Rosary and novena prayers will commence at 7.10 pm.

LAUDATO SI ~ FASTING

Fasting is a Christian tradition which we preserve now on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Meat production contributes almost 20% of greenhouse gas emissions. The Derry Diocesan Laudato Si Group ask that you might consider abstinence from meat on Fridays in Lent as a Lenten practice and a sign of Christian concern for our fragile and endangered world.

TRÓCAIRE LENTEN CAMPAIGN

Trócaire Lenten Boxes will be available from Ash Wednesday in all Church porches. Please take a box home and support this annual appeal to help people living in developing countries.
