FEASTS OF THE WEEK

Monday 15: St Teresa of Avila. Lived 1515-1582, established Carmelite convents. Patron of Spain.

Wednesday 17: St Ignatius.  Bishop of Antioch, he died a martyr about 107.

Thursday 18: St Luke. A physician.  One of the authors of the Gospels. 

Friday 19: St Paul of the Cross. Founder of the Passionists in Rome.

 

MISSION SUNDAY

Next Sunday, October 21, will be  Mission Sunday and in his  message for this year’s World Mission Sunday Pope Francis, invites young men and women who want to follow Christ, to seek, to discover and to persevere in their vocation. The theme of this year’s observance is, ‘Together with young people, let us bring the Gospel to all’ .Mission Sunday encourages prayers, cooperation and help for missions as well as reminds Christians about the fundamental missionary character of the Church and of every baptized person. 

The Holy Father also invites all Catholics to contribute to Mission Sunday Collections. Your contributions will be used to build simple mission churches, to educate seminarians, religious novices, lay catechists and pastoral workers. Your gift may also be used for building health facilities for children and adults as well as for providing emergency aid in times of war or natural disaster or to assist missionaries in their efforts to care for refugees.

The second collection at all Masses next weekend will be the Mission Sunday Collection.

 

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Eucharistic Adoration in Holy Rosary Church on Monday 15 October,  following the 10.00 am Mass until 7.25 pm, concluding with Mass at 7.30 pm.

 

IRISH PILGRIMAGE TRUST  (IPT)

Pilgrimage to Lourdes, Easter 2019.  The IPT is currently accepting applications for this pilgrimage from young people (11 – 30 years) with a medical condition, physical disability, illness, learning disability, social or emotional need or applications for children under the age of 11, who must be accompanied by a parent or close relative.  IPT covers the cost of the young person selected to travel. SICK VISITATION OF SICK AND HOUSBOUND

Fr Madden will visit the sick in his care on Monday 15th, Tuesday 16th & Wednesday 17th October.

CONFIRMATION 2019

Fr Madden will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday 23rd March in St Columba’s Church Straw at 12noon

 

PARISH ANNIVERSARY MASS

Friday Mass at 7.30 pm in St Columba’s Straw is offered as an anniversary Mass for deceased parishioners.  If you wish to have your loved one prayed for at this Mass you MUST give their name to the Parish Office before Thursday of the relevant week.

Ranganna Gaeilge do dhaoine fásta - Adult Irish language classes

Classes have commenced again for this term but there are still a few spaces available.  The classes are on Thursday evenings in Glór na Speiríní, Straw at 7:00pm to 8:30pm at a cost of only £30 this term. There are 4 levels available to cater for everyone's needs from beginners to intermediate to the more advanced. Tá fáilte roimh chách- Everyone's welcome!  

 

KILCRONAGHAN CENTRE

·   Creative Writing for 6 weeks from Tuesday 16 October 11 am – 12.30 pm.

·   Brainfit Workshop on Friday 19 October 10.00 am - 12 noon – a fun morning to encourage healthy brain activity and help reduce mental decline.Cost £2.

·   Autumn and Hallowe’en Cookery Demonstration, Friday 26 October 10.00 am – 12 noon.  Lunch included.

·  Bulb Planting for spring with Margaret Johnston on Monday 29 October 10.00 am – 12 noon. All materials included.

DRAPERSTOWN LIBRARY

We hope to have a photography display in the library soon – from the Mid –Ulster Photography Club.  More details later. 

We have lots of children’s picture-books in the Irish language and book suitable for children attending Irish-medium education.  Also  adult Irish language fiction books

Knit and Natter is held each Tuesday at 2.00pm. new members welcome. 

Tea and newspapers are offered each Friday afternoon and Saturday 1.30-3.00pm. 

Rhythm and Rhyme sessions are held each Friday at 10.30am– new members welcome.

Hallowe’een crafts are being held on Tuesday 23rd October at 6.00pm.  Spaces available- booking essential. 

A new member of staff has been appointed by Libraries NI to assist people in this area in IT skills.  Anyone wanting a 1-to-1 session or classes on how to use their Ipad, tablet, phone or other digital device, please contact the library to book a place.  Classes   hopefully will run from November until March. 

 

ANNUAL HARVEST FESTIVAL

Rev Carmen Hayes, extends a warm welcome to the Annual Harvest Festival in St Anne’s Church, Sixtowns on Sunday 21st October at 3pm.  This is one of only three occasions when the Church opens its doors and is a traditional harvest celebration when the church will be decorated with flowers and fruits of the season.  

 

LADIES FOOTBALL NEEDS YOU!

There are lots of ways that you can get involved within all age groups:

- Share your experience and passion by helping our management team at training/games etc.

- Help out with travel to/supervision at matches as a great chance to support your kids and our club.
