CONFIRMATIONS 2021

Following the extension of the lockdown until at least March 8, regretfully the decision has had to be taken to cancel the Confirmation ceremonies we had planned for the month of March.

Confirmations will be arranged at a time later in the year when, hopefully, there would be less chance of them having to be cancelled again.

In the meantime, parents/guardians and families of all children in Ballinascreen and Desertmartin making First Confession, First Communion and Confirmation this year are asked to put this date, Tuesday February 23, in their diary. On this date at 7.00 pm there will be a special online presentation from St Eugene's Cathedral, via the cathedral webcam, hosted by the Derry Diocesan Catechetical Centre.

More details nearer the event.

THE BIBLE IN A YEAR FREE PODCAST

Fr. Mike Schmitz walks you through the entire Bible in 365 episodes, providing commentary, reflection, and prayer along the way.

Unlike any other Bible podcast, Ascension’s Bible in a Year podcast follows a reading plan inspired by The Great Adventure Bible Timeline, a ground-breaking approach to understanding salvation history developed by renowned Catholic Bible scholar Jeff Cavins.

For each period in the timeline, Jeff will join Fr. Mike for a special episode that will help you understand the context of each reading.

With this podcast, you won’t just read the Bible in a year … you’ll finally understand how all the pieces of the Bible fit together to tell an amazing story that continues in your life today!

Listen and…

  1. Read the ENTIRE Bible

  2. Feel more confident about your understanding of Scripture

  3. Experience the transformative power of God’s Word in your daily life

  4. Start seeing the world through the lens of Scripture

Each 20-25 minute episode includes:

  • Two to three scripture readings

  • A reflection from Fr. Mike Schmitz

  • A guided prayer to help you hear God’s voice in his Word

POPE FRANCIS @PONTIFEX

The words of the Sacred Scripture were not written to remain imprisoned on papyrus, parchment or paper, but to be received by a person who prays, making them blossom in his or her heart

PRAYERS FOR OUR PROTECTION

The Irish Catholic Bishops have asked for prayers for those affected by the Coronavirus. Placing all our trust in the Lord, and asking Our Lady to intercede for us, the bishops invite everyone to pray these prayers:

EXTRACT FROM SAINT PATRICK’S BREASTPLATE

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me,

Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you,

O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer. Amen
