Saturday 9: St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) virgin and martyr, Patron of Europe.

Edith Stein,born in 1891 in Poland, the youngest of seven children of a Jewish family. In 1922 she became a Catholic and a Carmelite nun. Being Jewish and Catholic she fled to Holland when the Nazis came to power but she was captured and sent to Auschwitz where she died in its gas chamber on 9 August 1942.

MARY'S MEALS - TALKS

LITTLE WOMBLES ~ STAFF

Little Wombles Cross Community Playgroup is currently seeking additional relief staff. This role provides valuable experience and could lead to more regular hours. With Educational Authority approval, they  hope to enhance this position with the possibility of it developing into a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Assistant role. Please express your interest via email addressed to leader: littlewombles@hotmail.com.

PARISH ANNIVERSARY AND MONTH’S MIND MASSES

If you wish to have a deceased loved one prayed for at any Anniversary Friday Mass, you MUST please email their name to Ballinascreen Parish Office by noon on Thursday of the relevant week. Notices for First Anniversary and Month's Mind Masses should be received before the Wednesday of the previous week so that, they may be printed in the Bulletin the weekend before the Anniversary Mass.


KNOCKNAGIN HALL

  • Defibrillator Training: Wednesday 27 August at 10.00 am. To book a place please phone 07887614094.

  • Irish dancing classes continue on Tuesdays at 5.30 pm for new beginners and 6.00 pm. To register contact Nicola on 07518207458.

  • All other classes will resume in September.

  • Sarsfield’s Accordion Band

    • Annual Buffet and Dance in Parish Hall on Friday 19 September. Music by Sprig of Heather. Tickets on sale - £15 or pay at the door. 

    • Band practice on Thursdays at 7.30 pm, members are asked to attend please in preparation for the Feast of the Assumption celebrations on Sunday 17 August in Newcastle Co Down. 


POPE LEO  @PONTIFEX

We are called to share our experience of faith with others, bearing witness to the love of Christ and becoming missionary disciples. Let us not limit ourselves to theoretical knowledge alone, but live our faith in a concrete way, experiencing God's love in our daily lives.


PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Anyone considering a vocation to the diocesan priesthood is invited to an afternoon of prayer and discussion organised by the diocesan vocations team on Sunday 24 August.

Mass in St Columb's Church, Waterside, at 12.30 pm, followed by refreshments in the parish hall. Bishop McKeown hopes to attend, along with a number of priests and seminarians. The afternoon will end at 6.00 pm.
