FR JOHN DOWNEY RIP

  • Fr John Downey’s First Anniversary Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday 18 September in St Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry at 7.30 pm.  All welcome.

  • On Saturday morning, September 21, at 11.00 am in St Eugene’s Church Moneyneena there will be a Mass of Remembrance at which a dedication to Fr Downey, presented to Ballinascreen Parish by his family, will be unveiled and blessed. Everyone welcome.


VISITATION OF SICK AND HOUSEBOUND

Fr Madden will complete the visitation to the sick and housebound this week.


DESERTMARTIN PARISH FIRST ANNIVERSARY & MONTHS MINDS

In order to facilitate families and the larger numbers who attend Months Mind and First Anniversary Masses and who cannot attend Mass in St Mary's Church Coolcalm on a Friday morning, from now on such Masses in Desertmartin Parish may be celebrated on a Saturday evening, if requested, at 7.30 pm in St Patrick’s Church Keenaught. All other Anniversary Masses will continue to be celebrated at the Friday Masses as usual.

DERRY DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK

Bishop McKeown will lead the Diocesan Pilgrimage on Saturday 28 September. Mass with Anointing of the Sick will take place at 3.00 pm in the main Basilica, accompanied by the Long Tower Parish Folk Group. 


TRÓCAIRE

Trócaire is looking for people to join their team of Christmas fundraisers to help respond to the urgent need of poor communities around the world, including the millions of children and families caught in conflict in Sudan and Gaza. You can take action and make a difference through a range of activities, including the promotion of their Gifts of Change – training and support will be provided.

COURSES AT DRUMALIS

  • Pathways Adult Faith Development Programme for 2024 /2025 begins in Drumalis on Saturday 12 October, and runs for one Saturday a month from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, from October to June. All welcome. Past participants may be interested in this year’s new programme.

  • Growth In Prayer and Reflective Living hosted by Drumalis via Zoom, commences Monday 16 September. This 20 session course is based on Ignatian Spirituality. 

  • Rooted in Love. Zoom course delivered over ten Thursday evening sessions from September 2024 to May 2025 – this course is ideal for anyone who has completed Growth in Prayer and Reflective Living.

SMA ST THÉRÈSE NOVENA 2024 

From Monday 23 September to Tuesday 1 October.  Daily Mass and Novena Prayers at 10.00 am and 7.30 pm, in SMA Chapel, Dromantine.  All welcome. You can also participate via webcam www.sma.ie.


WARM WELCOME WEDNESDAYS

  • Warm Welcome Wednesdays in Workspace Community Hub have recommenced, taking place every Wednesday from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm.

  • On Wednesday 18 September, Claire from Crafty Mammy Fabrics will be demonstrating how to create an Autumnal centrepiece.  She will be bringing along her fabric and wool pop-up shop as well. Sessions are free and suitable for beginners. Everyone welcome.


BALLINASCREEN TRADITIONAL MUSIC GROUP

  • Registration for music classes will take place on Tuesday 24 September in St Colm’s High School from 7.00 pm to 7.45 pm.  Classes will start on Tuesday 1 October from 7.00 pm to 7.45 pm.

  • Classes are available in Fiddle, Tin Whistle, Bodhran, Guitar, Beginner Concertina, Adult Bodhran, Harp.

  • Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes are available except for those classes mentioned above.

  • It is possible to hire the more expensive instruments for a monthly direct debit fee. 

  • More information will be available on Ballinascreen Traditional Music Facebook page.

BALLINASCREEN SET DANCING GROUP

Set dancing classes have resumed in An Scioból (behind The Market Inn) on Thursday nights from 8.30 pm to 10.00 pm

Everyone welcome. Great way to get your exercise and enjoy the craic!


DIAMOND PAINTING FOR BEGINNERS

‘Diamond Painting’ beginners’ sessions in Workspace Community Hub resume again on Tuesday 17 September from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm   Diamond painting is a new art hobby which involves applying multi-coloured rhinestones on a canvas to produce a shimmering picture. If you’re interested in learning more just call in to one of the sessions. Booking not required.


CHARITY CLIMB FOR MARIE CURIE

On Saturday 28 September Archie Kelly will be 70 and will be climbing Croagh Patrick to help raise much needed funds for this charity. Donations can be made at Ballinascreen Credit Union, or by using this Just Giving link:


CORNSTORE GOES COUNTRY 

Fundraising Event on Saturday 28 September in An Ráth Dubh at 8.00 pm. Music by Kick the Dust and Craic Of Don followed by Disco by Big Dee. 


SIXTOWNS BOWLING CLUB

Bowls will resume on Monday 16 September at 8.30 pm in Sixtowns Cross Community Centre. Beginners welcome.


LAPÓGLANN - TODDLE-INN

Parent and Toddlers Group meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.00 am to 10.30 am in Glór na Speiríní Centre Straw, which is located directly beside the church. Notices for First Anniversary and Month's Mind Masses should be received before the Wednesday of the previous week so that they may be printed in the Bulletin the weekend before the Anniversary Mass.
