REOPENING OF CHURCHES
Following the news that from Monday June 29 Mass may be celebrated in churches with a limited number of people, depending on social distancing, some seats will be available at morning Mass in Holy Rosary Church Draperstown on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10.00 am and in St Mary’s Church Coolcalm on Tuesday and Thursday at 10.00 am.
Masses will still be available on the webcam for the majority of parishioners.
However, it is still safer to remain at home and follow Mass on the webcam. This certainly applies to the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions.
Despite the fact that permission has now been given to open churches for Mass, advice has been, to say the least, confusing.
Fr Madden and Fr McGirr believe that we should take the reintroduction of public worship slowly. This is based on the many conversations they have had with parishioners in both parishes, from Parish Pastoral Groups, advice from medical professionals and guidelines issued by the Irish Episcopal Conference.
Therefore, though public daily Mass will resume on Monday 29 June, Sunday Masses including Saturday Vigils will remain on the webcam for now. As a greater number of people attend Mass at the weekend than on a weekday, greater attention must be paid to how we can facilitate this larger number safely.
We will keep parishioners up to date throughout the week with notices on the parish website and via the Parish Facebook.
It is very important to note that the Sunday Obligation to attend Mass has been removed.
Volunteers needed:
In the meantime, a large body of volunteers is needed to implement the many guidelines that must be in place before daily Masses begin.
As we hope to open each church in the parish for weekend Masses, as soon as possible, volunteers will be needed for each church.
Dates and times of meetings for volunteers will be posted on Facebook etc….
On Monday morning (June 29) parishioners who wish to attend the 10.00 am Mass are asked to come early and to take directions from the ushers, who will giude you to your seat. It will not be possible to sit wherever you like and social distancing must be maintained.
Please do not genuflect, bow your head in reverence instead.
There will be no kneeling during Mass, only sitting or standing.
Holy Communion will be distributed at the end of Mass and on the hand only. Parishioners must go to communion when instructed to do so and will leave the church by the nearest exit. You cannot come back in to the church.
If the limit of seats is reached, parishioners are asked to sit in their cars and follow Mass, if they can, on the webcam. When those seated have left the church, those who have remained in their cars are welcome to enter the church to receive Holy Communion. They will sanitise their hands and leave as directed.
We thank you, in advance, for your cooperation as these new guidelines are implemented.
READERS AND EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
Mindful that some Readers of the Word of God and Eucharistic Ministers may not be available to offer their services at this time, those who can are asked to please email the Parish Office as soon as possible giving name, address, and telephone number and the church they usually attend. Thank you.

PRAYER TO SAINTS PETER AND PAUL
O holy Apostles,
Peter and Paul,
intercede for us.
Protect, O Lord,
your people who trust
in the patronage of your
Apostles, Peter and Paul,
and by their constant protection
protect your people.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
In their apostolic mission, Saints Peter and Paul were obliged to face difficulties of every kind. But, far from deterring their missionary activity, these difficulties reinforced their zeal for the Church’s welfare and for the salvation of mankind.
They were able to overcome every trial because their trust was not based on human resources but on the grace of the Lord, who delivers his friends from every evil and saves them for his kingdom.
May our holy patrons, Peter and Paul, sustain us and obtain for us that missionary zeal which made them witnesses of Christ to the ends of the then-known world
(Pope John Paul II).
PRAYERS FOR OUR PROTECTION
The Irish Catholic Bishops have asked for prayers for those affected by the Coronavirus. Placing all our trust in the Lord, and asking Our Lady to intercede for us, the bishops invite everyone to pray these prayers:
EXTRACT FROM SAINT PATRICK’S BREASTPLATE
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.
MEMORARE
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer. Amen.
