LENTEN PASTORAL LETTER
Bishop Donal McKeown, Bishop of Derry has issued a Pastoral Letter on the challenges facing all parishes in the Diocese of Derry as a greater number of priests reach retirement age (75) and the number of vocations has fallen dramatically in recent years. Copies are available at the back of the church and on the parish website.
We welcome Monsignor Joseph Donnelly home to Ballinascreen Parish next Saturday as he confirms 80 boys and girls in St Columba’s Church, Straw. We are delighted he accepted the invitation to confirm our P7 children this year. The Confirmation Ceremony begins at 12 noon. PARISH WEEKLY ENVELOPES
The new boxes of Envelopes are now being delivered. If you do not have envelopes and wish to receive a box or if you have changed your address during the past year please advise the Parsh Office. We ask that all wage earners contribute to the parish by having their own personal box of envelopes.
We are also asking you to consider joining our Gift-Aid Scheme, if you have not already done so. If you pay tax, even a small amount, because we are a registered charity we are entitled to claim back from the Government the tax on the amount you pay to the Church. We know that at the mention of tax, most people have a fear that this will draw attention to their accounts; we can ensure you that this has not been the case where the scheme has been in operation. We therefore, ask you to consider completing the card enclosed in your box of envelopes and place it in with your first envelope. It is vital that you use the envelope method or direct debit to pay the Church so we may claim Gift-Aid on your contributions, which have to be recorded. Many thanks for your support. If you have already signed up for Gift Aid there is no need to sign up again. We wish to thank all those who are delivering the new boxes of envelopes.
