BULLETIN NOTES

FEASTS OF THE WEEK

Tuesday 4: St John Vianney, 1786 – 1859. He had to contend with poverty, milarity service and his own intellecutal shortcomings in order to become a priest. In 1817, he was sent to care for the people of Ars, a small obscure French village. The marvellous gift of the unlearned priest for seeing into the depths of the soul the world to Ars. From 1830 on, the curé averaged twelve to sixteen hours a day in the confessional.

Patron of priests.

Wednesday 5: The Dedication of the Basilica of St Mary Major

The basilica was built by Pope Sixtus lll after the Council of Ephesus (431). lt is the first church in the West named in honour of the Mother of God.

Thursday 6: The Transfuguration of the Lord. The Cross requires the exodus of Jesus, his death, Resurrection and glorification. The disciples have to realise that he must depart, just as they are now prepared for his going up to Jerusalem to die.

Friday 7: Saints Sixtus II, pope, and Companions, martyrs

Saturday 8: St Dominic, priest, 117O - 1221, a Spaniard who founded the Order of Preachers (Dominicans)

POPE FRANCIS@PONTIFEX

#Friendship is one of life’s gifts and a grace from God. Faithful friends, who stand at our side in times of difficulty, are a reflection of the Lord’s love, His gentle and consoling presence in our lives.Men and women who pray know that hope is stronger than discouragement. They believe that love is more powerful than death, and that love will surely triumph one day, even if it be in times and ways we do not know. #Prayer

PRAYERS FOR OUR PROTECTION

The Irish Catholic Bishops have asked for prayers for those affected by the Coronavirus. Placing all our trust in the Lord, and asking Our Lady to intercede for us, the bishops invite everyone to pray these prayers:

EXTRACT FROM SAINT PATRICK’S BREASTPLATE

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me,

Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you,

O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer. Amen
