Envelopes may be returned to the Parish Office or Parochial Houses or placed in a secure box located in Holy Rosary Church.
Thank you very much for your generous support.
The start of the Parish Draw, which usually runs from the last Monday of May, will be delayed this year.
Many thanks also for the generous donations received for St Vincent de Paul and for Trócaire.
Due to the Coronavirus restrictions, Cemetery Sunday in both Desertmartin and Ballinascreen Parishes has been deferred to a later date.
There will be NO Cemetery Sunday in Desertmartin at the end of this month.
WORLD DAY OF SOCIAL COMMUNICATIONS
The 54th World Day of Social Communications will be celebrated today Sunday 24 May – the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord.
Pope Francis has chosen to reflect on the theme of storytelling in his message this year.
This morning and throughout the day, resources and video clips from around the diocese will be published on the Diocese website and its social media channels on this storytelling theme.
You can follow them online at:
VIRTUAL LOUGH DERG PILGRIMAGE
Bishop McKeown is inviting people to join him on Friday 29 May from St Eugene's Cathedral, Derry, where he will lead his second 24 hour 'virtual pilgrimage' to fast and pray, asking God:
to free us from this pandemic and to support those who are fighting it
to comfort those who have been afflicted with this pandemic; and
to ask God for the wisdom to know how to live now and in the aftermath of the pandemic.
This time of prayer and penance at home will take its shape from core elements of the 3-day Lough Derg pilgrimage.
The day will start with 6.00 am Mass, Seven Stations through the 24 hour period and conclude with 6.00 am Mass on Saturday 30 May. You can follow and participate in the pilgrimage online at www.derrydiocese.org.
A number of parishes across the diocese are participating from their own churches, and a Station from each of seven of these parishes will be live-streamed to the diocesan website (as well as their own parish website).
Full details of Mass, Station times and prayers are available at: www.derrydiocese.org/news/day-of-prayer
PARISH ANNIVERSARY MASSES
If parishioners in Ballinascreen and Desertmartin wish to have their loved one prayed for at the 10.00 am Mass in Holy Rosary and the 7.30 pm Mass in Coolcam every Friday, you MUST email their name to Ballinascreen Parish Office by 12 noon on Thursday of the relevant week. Email address is firstname.lastname@example.org
You may contact the office by email. These Masses may be viewed on the respective Parish webcam.
FAN THE FLAME MASS 2020
Thursday 4 June was to be the date for the annual Fan the Flame Mass, where we come together to celebrate all of the young people in our diocese who have received the sacrament of Confirmation and who are preparing to move to the next stage of their education. Unfortunately, that will not be possible this year. We do hope that these young people will experience the full Fan the Flame in the future as it is such a joy-filled day for all of us.
To mark the end of their primary education, Bishop McKeown will celebrate the 10.00 am Mass in Saint Eugene’s Cathedral for them on that day via the webcam. www.steugenescathedral.com/webcam.html

PADRE PIO MASS
Padre Pio Mass every Wednesday at 7.30 pm in Longtower Church Derry. You are invited to take part from home and join in the prayers of this Mass during this pandemic.
Resources are available on the Derry Diocesan Cathtical website to help families, young people and children to continue to engage with their Faith Formation during this time.
Please log on to www.catecheticalcentre.org to view a range of resources suitable for primary school children, secondary school pupils and young people.
In accordance with the Government statement and guidelines issued by Bishop McKeown there will be no baptisms until further notice. Baptisms will resume as soon as possible, but we ask parents not to be anxious. It is customary nowadays for children to be baptised many weeks and months after they are born. Parents can bless their children with the Sign of the Cross morning and evening and recite the
Guardian Angel Prayer for them:
Angel of God
My guardian dear
To whom God’s love
Commits me here
Ever this day
Be at my side
To light and guard
To rule and guide. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR OUR PROTECTION
The Irish Catholic Bishops have asked for prayers for those affected by the Coronavirus. Placing all our trust in the Lord, and asking Our Lady to intercede for us, the bishops invite everyone to pray these prayers:
EXTRACT FROM SAINT PATRICK’S BREASTPLATE
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly to you,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer. Amen.
