FEASTS OF THE WEEK

Tuesday 20: St Bernard, abbot and doctor of the Church. 1090-1153.

Wednesday 21: St Pius X, pope.

Lived from 1835 – 1914.

Thursday 22: The Queenship of Mary. During the Middle Ages, Mary was venerated as queen of the angels and saints. Pope Pius Xll prescribed this memorial for the universal Church at the close of the Marian Year in 1955.

Friday 23: St Eugene, (Eoghan).

Patron saint of the Diocese of Derry.

Saturday 24: St Bartholomew, apostle.

HOLY ROSARY CHURCH

Holy Rosary Church, is temporarily closed for extensive necessary renovations which will make it a warm and inviting space for the people of Ballinascreen and Desertmartin to come together to worship the Lord and grow in their own personal relationship with him.

For the duration of the temporary closure there will be no 12 noon Sunday Mass, weekday 10.00 am Mass will be held in St Eugene’s Church, Moneyneena as will the 6.00 pm Vigil Mass on Saturday evenings.

Mass for the Do This In Memory Of Me First Communion Programme will take place at the 6.00 pm Vigil Mass in Moneyneena.

Also during the closure of Holy Rosary Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will only take place on the First Monday of the month. It will begin after 10.00 am Mass in St Eugene’s Church, Moneyneena and conclude at 7.25 pm that same evening, when the monthly Mass in honour St Pio of Pietrelcina will take place.

Holy Rosary Church will reopen on Sunday December 1, First Sunday of Advent, when Bishop Donal McKeown will be Chief Celebrant at the Mass of Rededication.

DERRY DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE

Fr Madden is organising a bus to take pilgrims from Ballinascreen and Desertmartin to Knock on Saturday 28 September leaving Holy Rosary Church at 7.30 am. There will a tea/coffee break stop on the way to Knock and on the return home for an evening meal. Please contact Maire at Ballinascreen Parish Office by phone only or in person 79628248. Cost is £35, this includes breakfast and evening meal. This Diocesan Pilgrimage will be led by Bishop Donal McKeown. Stations of the Cross at 2.00 pm, Mass at 3.00 pm, with Sacrament of the Sick.

PARISH ANNIVERSARY MASS

The Friday 7.30 pm Mass in St Columba’s Straw is offered as an anniversary Mass for deceased parishioners. If you wish to have your loved one prayed for at this Mass you MUST give their name to the Parish Office by Thursday of the relevant week.

BALLINASCREEN PARISH DRAW

Draw will be held on Tuesday 27 August. All returns to Parish Office please before 3.00 pm on Thursday 22 August.

PARTNERS IN MISSION

Listening Events on Saturday 14 September, from 10.30 am – 3.00 pm, in Ardmore Pastoral Centre, Derry and in St Joseph’s Parish Hall, Omagh. CATHOLIC GRANDPARENTS' ASSOCIATION

ST MARIA GORETTI PRAYER MOVEMENT

SCHOLA

Any singer interested in being part of a schola for the pleasure of singing sacred music and for the occasional liturgical celebration should please contact Sr Perpetua on 71351233. YOUTH CO-ORDINATOR ~ POST

Derry Diocesan Trust seeks to recruit a Youth Co-ordinator for the Parish of Templemore (St Eugene’s Cathedral and St Columba’s, Long Tower). Part-Time (20 hours), Fixed Term One-Year Contract (with possibility of extension). The employee will facilitate the growth of the faith of all youth within the parish, which currently has five primary schools and three post-primary schools. INTERNATIONAL FOOD FESTIVAL

International Food Festival on Saturday 24 August. St Patrick’s Street will be closed from 6.00 pm until 11.00 pm.

Local businesses will be selling tasting plates from different countries.

There will also be live music and games on the street throughout the evening.

Busking Festival and Family Fun Day

Busking Festival and Family Fun Day will be on Sunday 25 August . St Patrick’s Street will be closed from 1.00 pm until 10.00 pm. Everyone welcome.

DIOCESAN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CONFERENCE

‘The Path I Walk Christ Walks It’

The Diocese of Derry is hosting its inaugural Education Conference for Schools in Saint Columb’s College, Derry on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 August. As part of this event, there will be two public sessions, beginning each evening at 7.00 pm. On 28 August, Fr Adrian Porter, SJ, Director of the Jesuit Institute of Education, London, will speak about, ‘Trusting God-Promoting Positive Mental Health in a Catholic School’. On 29 August, Professor Francis Campbell, Vice Chancellor of St Mary’s University Twickenham, will address the topic,

‘Why Choose a Catholic School?’
