FEASTS OF THE WEEK

Friday 22: The Chair of St Peter. This feast celebrates Peter as bishop of Rome and the focus of unity in the communion of one faith.

CANDLES OF ATONEMENT

Parishioners are invited to light a candle at any of the candelabras in any of the Churches of the parish over the next week and to pray the Prayer for Atonement to remember the victims and survivors of abuse. The candles are a reminder to pray for those who carry lifelong suffering following abuse – they symbolise repentance, light in the darkness and hope. There is no charge for lighting a candle of atonement.

Below is the prayer but it is also available to read at each candelabra.

Candle of Atonement Prayer

Lord, forgive us our many sins.

We grieve and repent with all our hearts for having offended you, for our great failings and neglect of the young and vulnerable.

We place all of those who have been hurt by the Church in any way into your loving hands and under the protection of Our Blessed Mother.

Lord, bring peace to their broken lives and show us all the way out of darkness and into the light of your Word.

May we as the people of God be more fully human, more fully Christ-like and more fully your people, that we may see the errors of the past and go forward with renewed hope and faith in Christ and in our Church. Amen.

TOWARDS PEACE

Towards Peace is a service offering spiritual support to those who have experienced abuse perpetrated by Church personnel, individually or institutionally. The vision of Towards Peace is to provide a safe supportive space for people and their families, whose spiritual life has been damaged by abuse. It is also a response to the continually growing understanding of the spiritual impact of the trauma of abuse. Towards Peace provides spiritual support through one-to-one spiritual direction sessions, with a qualified spiritual companion. If you have been abused and would like a space to reflect on the impact of the trauma of abuse on your own relationship with God and spirituality, Towards Peace is here for you. www.towardspeace.ie Phonr: 015053028. Mobile: 0867710533.
