FEASTS OF THE WEEK

Tuesday 8: Blessed John Sullivan, born in Dublin on May 8 1861. His was the first ever beatification celebrated in Ireland on 13 May 2017 in St Francis Xavier Church.

As Tuesday 8 May is the feast of Blessed John Sullivan, the 10.00 am Mass will be celebrated in St Columba’s Church, Straw where his picture is venerated.

PRAYER FOR LIFE

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Friday in St Columba’s Church Straw from 6.00 pm - 7.25 pm. Please join in this Prayer for Life to protect the unborn and to support their mothers and fathers in choosing to continue with their pregnancies, especially in difficult circumstances. All welcome.

CONFIRMATION 2018

We congratulate all our P7 children who were confirmed last Sunday by Bishop McKeown. Sincere thanks to the teachers and principals of our primary schools who prepared the children for their Confirmation. We are also grateful to St Columba’s Parish Choir and everyone who helped in many different ways to ensure our children’s Confirmation Ceremony in St Columba’s Church was special. Thanks also to the children’s parents and sponsors whom we encourage to continue supporting these children on their faith journey. We also thank St Colm’s GAC for the refreshments after the Ceremony.

PARISH DRAW

The Parish Draw commences its new year at the end of this month. Over the years it has made a very valuable contribution to the funds of the Parish, as well as providing £2000 in prizes to you, the contributors each month. We are very grateful to our many parishioners and friends who support this Draw and we trust this support will continue. We are also encouraging more parishioners and friends to please support the Draw this year. Annual subscription is £60 or £5 per month. It is our hope that you will give the promoters your support when they call over the next few weeks. You may also join the Draw through the Parish Office. We would also like to acknowledge and sincerely thank all the Promoters who willingly give so much of their time to collecting each month. Their work is greatly appreciated. If you are willing to become a Promoter in your area or work place please contact the Parish Office. Promoters’ cards now in Parish Office.

DIOCESAN LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

A group of young people from the Parish are accompanying the sick on the Derry Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes as helpers. To assist with their fund raising efforts, there will be a special collection after each of the Masses next weekend, 12 and 13 May. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Therefore there will be NO SVP collection next weekend.

PARISH ANNIVERSARY MASS

The 7.30 pm Friday Mass in St Columba’s Straw is offered each week as an anniversary Mass for deceased parishioners. If you wish to have your loved one prayed for at this Mass please give their name to the Parish Office before Thursday of the relevant week.

DERRY DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOUGH DERG

Pilgrimage from Friday 22 – Sunday 24 June will be led by Bishop Donal McKeown. Coach travelling from St Eugene’s Cathedral, via Strabane. For pilgrims travelling by coach, cost is £80 per person (which includes all transport and pilgrimage costs). A non-refundable deposit of £20 per person is required to secure a place. Pilgrims intending to travel and who have already obtained application forms should return these as soon as possible, with deposit to The Lourdes Pilgrimage Office as places are limited and will be reserved on a ‘first come, first served’ basis

SVP ANNUAL OUTING

SVP Annual Outing on Tuesday 29 May to Portrush, stopping in Ballymena on route. Bus will leave from Holy Rosary at 9.00 am sharp. Cost £15, covers bus fare and lunch, must be paid at time of booking with Julia McGuigan. Bookings must be made before Tuesday 22 May.

ST JOSEPH’S YOUNG PRIESTS’ SOCIETY

The Society acknowledges with sincere thanks several generous donations for the support and education of student priests at home and abroad. All benefactors share in the Masses and prayers of the society. Further donations gratefully accepted.
